The PBA is set to name its Davco-Best Player of the Conference before Game 4 of the Philippine Cup Finals between Magnolia Pambansang Manok and TNT Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Magnolia’s Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang and TNT rookie Mikey Williams are in the running for the coveted award which will put the winner in consideration for the Most Valuable Player at season’s end.

Abueva has a good chance of lifting his second BPC honor after topping the derby at the end of the semifinals with 34.2 Statistical Points.

His bid could be prevented by Sangalang, who jumped to second at 33.0 SPs while Williams was third with 32.0.

Forty percent of the stats will be used to determine the winner while the rest are votes from the PBA Press Corps (30%), players (25%) and the PBA Commissioner’s Office (5%).

Abueva won his only BPC back in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup while he was still with Alaska. This year saw “The Beast” produce big numbers since joining Magnolia from Phoenix Super LPG in a trade last February.

A BPC will give Abueva’s good buddy and former San Sebastian teammate Sangalang the biggest individual award of his eight-year PBA career.

Williams for the most part dazzled in his maiden conference in the PBA, helping TNT reach the finals with his impressive ability to score at will.

One of the three will likely be named even if NorthPort’s Robert Bolick and San Miguel Beer’s June Mar Fajardo are also in contention.

Bolick was second in the BPC race but NorthPort was eliminated in the quarterfinals while Fajardo is fifth after SMB was booted out in the semis.
