LTO W. Visayas exec sacked after beating red light

ILOILO CITY — For allegedly disregarding a traffic light, one of the Western Visayas assistant regional directors of Land Transportation Office (LTO-6) in Iloilo City has been relieved of duty.

No less than Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered LTO Chief Edgar Galvante to relieve from duty LTO-6 Assistant Regional Arthur Apolinar Tuesday, October 26.

This was after Mayor Jerry Treñas personally complained to Tugade of the allegations against Apolinar.

“The LTO assistant regional director does not comply with traffic rules, especially the red lights. He feels he is beyond the law. We cannot allow an assistant regional director to act beyond the rule of law in Iloilo City,” said Treñas in a statement.

Apolinar allegedly beat the red light along El 98 Street in Jaro district last Monday, October 25.

The city government’s traffic enforcers had to chase Apolinar all the way to LTO Western Visayas regional office along McArthur Highway.

Meanwhile, LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II said that Apolinar’s actions are his own.

“It does not reflect the LTO as a whole,” Geduspan told Manila Bulletin.

Geduspan added that LTO-6 is awaiting the formal complaint of the Iloilo City government against Apolinar.
