GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Local disaster officials have launched rescue operations on more than 200 families who were trapped during flashfloods in Glan, Sarangani province last Friday.
Municipal disaster risk reduction management officer Joel Toledo said rescuers had evacuated at least 270 families who were affected by flashfloods in the villages of Mudan and Glan Padidu in Glan town.
He said 70 families from Barangay Glan Padidu were rescued after their houses were washed away by floodwaters into the sea.
He said the floodwaters overflowed from rivers at the mountaneous portion of Barangay Mudan.
Local disaster officials said most of the affected villagers are living near the river banks which had been declared as danger zone due to perennial incidence of floodings in these areas.
Toledo said scores sustained minor injuries after their houses were submerged in floodwaters.
