PAGASA: Cooler days coming as ‘amihan’ to soon affect PH

Cool breeze may soon be experienced across the country with the coming of the onset of northeast monsoon or “amihan”, the state weather bureau said Thursday, Oct. 21.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the country is currently on its “transition period.”

“Ibig sabihin ay papunta na tayo sa amihan season (That means we're heading into the northeast monsoon season),” Aurelio said.

“Sa katunayan, ang malamig na hangin ay umaabot na sa Taiwan area (In fact, the cold air is already reaching the Taiwan area),” he added.

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is currently affecting Visayas and Mindanao.

Batanes and Babuyan Islands may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the prevailing Northeasterly surface windflow.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ or localized thunderstorms.

State meteorologists warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
