Filipino fighter Jeremy Miado is expecting an intense wrestling match against Chinese rival Miao Li Tao when they clash anew in the Circle in ONE: NEXTGEN at the Singapore Indoor Stadium next Friday, Oct. 29.

Jeremy Miado (ONE Championship)

Miado was actually surprised when ONE Championship announced that his comeback fight would be a rematch against Miao, who suffered a knockout loss against the Filipino last November 2019.

“Siguro request niya (Maybe it’s his request),” said Miado, who is now with Thailand-based stable Marrok Force. “Ako gusto ko nang lumaban kasi sobrang tagal na, mga two years din akong walang laban kaya inaccept ko na agad ang laban (I just accepted the fight as soon as possible because it’s been two years since I last fought and I really want to come back soon).”

In Marrok Force, the 28-year-old Miado has since then improved his ground game — both wrestling and grappling — which is a fit counter against Miao.

Compared to his training in the Philippines, Miado undergoes a minimum of two training sessions in Bangkok but a month or two was just enough for him to adjust to the new approach.

For their rematch, Miado believes Miao had improved a lot especially after the latter went toe-to-toe with former strawweight world champion Alex Silva and equalized with Japanese foe Ryuto Sawada.

“Sa tingin ko nag-work siya ng hard sa laban na ito, siguradong nag-prepare siya nang maayos (I’m pretty sure he worked and trained hard for this fight),” said the new Marrok Force recruit. “Sa gameplan niya, sa tingin ko same gameplan pa rin sila so magwre-wrestling, then ine-eexpect ko na sobrang maganda ‘yong laban na ito katulad ng laban niya kay Sawada (I believe he will settle the score with wrestling so I expect that this will be a very good match with the same intensity against Sawada).”

Miado, who owns a 9-4 record, also assured that he will get that 2-0 advantage over Miao and won’t let a trilogy happen anytime soon.

“Hindi ko hahayaan mangyari sa akin ‘yon kaya dapat focused ako sa gameplan din at paghandaan ‘yong puwede niyang gawin (I won’t that happen to me so I need to focus on our gameplan and be ready for what he’s about to do),” he added.
