Pisay students bag 3 gold, 2 silver awards in world invention competition


Students of the Philippine Science High School-Main Campus won three gold and two silver awards in this year’s World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE).

The PSHS System congratulated the students and the research advisers of PSHS-Main Campus for bagging the awards.

Bagging the gold awards were:

-Juan Carlos F. Austria and Czedrick T. Rodriguez for the “Development of an Arduino-Based Laser Cyclocomputer” coached by Roy Canseco ;

-Godfrey Dewayne F. Velasco, Angela Louise F. Torres, and Jon Owen E. Senoja for the “Lead Discovery and Optimization of Potential Muscarinc Aetylcholine M1 Antagonists” coached by Julius Saluria; and

-Uriel Nathan Orpilla, Clyde Ambroz Acyatan, and Lucas Sebastian Khan for the “Development of an Android Application for Triage Prediction in Hospital Emergency Departments” coached by Adrian Angeles.

Two teams from PSHS-Main Campus got the silver awards for the “Development of an Interactive web-based learning Application for Mendelian Inheritance in Human Using-Java” and “Design of Novel Nonpeptidic Smac Mimetic as an Inhibitor of XIAP-BIR3”.

PSHS students Victoria Albitos, Natalia Araña, and Martin Rey Belino won the silver award for the “Development of an Interactive web-based learning Application for Mendelian Inheritance in Human Using-Java”. Dawn Crisologo and Danah Purificacion served as their research advisers.

The team members behind the “Design of Novel Nonpeptidic Smac Mimetic as an Inhibitor of XIAP-BIR3” also garnered the silver award. They are Raven Glorianne H. Foronda, Iñaki Rafael M. Herrera, and Jose Mariano M. Suba. They were coached by Julius Saluria.

“WICE is an international competition held by Indonesian Young Scientist Association in a collaboration with SEGi College Subang Jaya, Malaysia for researchers to express their idea and innovations,” the PSHS said.

It noted that for this year, 369 teams from 29 countries participated in the competition. The participating countries include Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Belarus, Republic of Korea, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Iran, Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, USA, Vietnam, Serbia, Macedonia, Hong Kong, China, Egypt, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Sierra Leone, Algeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, and Sudan.

WICE has six categories— IT and Robotics, Innovative Social Sciences, Life Science, Environmental, Physics, and Engineering.

This year’s WICE was conducted online through Zoom Application.
