Trillanes, Diokno thank labor leaders for endorsement

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and human rights lawyer Jose Manuel 'Chel' Diokno, who are both running under the ticket of Vice President Leni Robredo, expressed their gratitude for the support and endorsement of the Alliance of Labor Leaders for Leni (ALL4Leni).

The labor leaders unveiled a billboard along South Luzon Expressway in Severina Subdivision between Sucat and Bicutan southbound on Tuesday, Oct. 19, the same day they called on Robredo to include labor leader Atty. Sonny Matula in her senatorial slate.

The Vice President has yet to fill up the 12th spot in her senatorial lineup.

“Maraming salamat sa tiwala at suporta, Alliance of Labor Leaders for Leni. Kasama ninyo ang Magdalo sa inyong misyon na maipanalo si VP Leni para sa mas maayos na kalagayan ng ating mga manggagawa (Thank you for the support, Alliance of Labor Leaders for Leni. Magdalo is with you in your mission to bring VP Leni to victory for a better future for our workers),” Trillanes said in a Facebook post that also included a photo of said billboard.

ALL4Leni had said that their request to include Matula, president of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), in Robredo’s lineup is not transactional and his non-exclusion, if ever, will not mean the withdrawal of their support from the Vice President.

Diokno also thanked the alliance for their “wholehearted support” in his candidacy as senator and to strengthen the country’s laws.

“Isa kayo sa nagbibigay sa akin ng lakas, inspirasyon, at dahilan para magpursiging lumaban sa kabila ng mga hamon na ating kinakaharap ngayong panahon ng pandemya, lalo na sa hanay ng ating manggagawa (You are one of the people who give me strength, inspiration, and my reason to continue fighting despite the challenges we face during this pandemic, especially our workers),” he said.

“Tiwala ako na sa ating pagtutulungan, maaabot natin ang tagumpay na magbibigay-daan sa muling pagbangon ng mga manggagawang Pilipino mula sa pandemya (I trust that by helping each other, we will reach victory that will pave the way for our Filipino workers to rise again from the pandemic),” Diokno, who is also the founder of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG), added.

Both Trillanes and Diokno are officially included in Robredo’s senatorial lineup. They are guests candidates as Trillanes belongs to the Magdalo Party while Diokno has just been sworn in as a member of Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino.

Aside from the two senatorial aspirants, ALL4Leni’s billboard also includes the photos of Robredo, Senator Francis Pangilinan, her running mate, and senatorial aspirants Matula and former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat, as well as reelectionists Risa Hontiveros and Leila De Lima.

Robredo’s controversial senatorial lineup includes former Vice President Jejomar Binay, reelectionists Richard Gordon, Joel Villanueva, and Migz Zubiri, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, author and lawyer Alex Lacson, Baguilat, Diokno, Trillanes, de Lima, and Hontiveros.
