This was the reaction of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to the report that Commissioner Rowena Guanzon is pushing for the scrapping of the May 2022 polls.

"Commissioner Guanzon is not, repeat not, recommending that the 2022 National and Local Elections be scrapped," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said on Twitter Monday, Oct. 18.

"This Adobo Chronicles report stating otherwise is obviously #fakenews," he added.

Guanzon issued the same statement on social media.

"Fake news!" she said.

When told by a Twitter user that the website is a satire media Jimenez replied: "In an environment where a significant segment of the public are unable to separate fact from fiction, I am leery of accepting the ‘satire card.’"

The poll officials were reacting to the Oct. 17 article in the Adobo Chronicles where Guanzon supposedly suggested that next year's elections for president be scrapped altogether as surveys conducted by different media outfits show that former Senator Bongbong Marcos is all but assured to become the next President.
