Thirdy Ravena slightly produced better numbers but the San-En Neophoenix were handed another defeat by the Hiroshima Dragonflies, 84-72, in their B.League match Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Hiroshima Sun Plaza.
Ravena had 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting while adding two rebounds, two assists and three steals but the Neophoenix couldn’t complete their comeback in the fourth quarter which allowed the host Dragonflies to sweep the two-game set.
San-En lost the first meeting, 76-67, the other day with Ravena held to just seven points on a 3-of-12 clip.
The Neophoenix dropped to 2-4 after absorbing back-to-back losses for the first time in the young season of the Japanese league.
Hiroshima took control in the fourth when it scored 10 straight points to make it 70-55 with six minutes remaining.
It was actually part of a 13-0 run that started late in the third with the Dragonflies holding a 57-55 edge.
Ravena ended the drought with a jumper and scored five more as part ofi San-En’s 13-3 response to cut Hiroshima’s lead to 73-68 following a dunk by Elias Harris with less than three minutes left in the payoff period.
But back-to-back triples by import Nick Mayo and Naoto Tsuji gave the Dragonflies a 79-68 lead with barely two minutes to play.
