The Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) bagged silver and bronze awards at the APN International Packaging Symposium hosted by the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on Sept. 22-23.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the DOST-ITDI through its Packaging Technology Division garnered the silver award for the poster paper entitled “Evaluation of Acetaldehyde Content in Different Brands of PET-Bottled Drinking Water in the Philippines”.

“The study evaluated the acetaldehyde content of PET-bottled water commercially available in the local market and determined the concentration range with respect to different brands,” he said in a report.

He said the DOST-ITDI also won the bronze award for the poster paper titled “Data Acquisition of Shock and Vibration Values in the Last Leg Delivery (Motorcycle and Closed Van) of Small Products within Metro Manila.”

The ITDI is one of the DOST's research and development institutes (RDIs). It is tasked to undertake multidisciplinary industrial R&D, technical services, and knowledge translation or technology transfer and commercialization.

"ITDI harnesses know-how in new technology and product innovation, and through the years, has emerged as a credible and reliable industry and government partner in accelerating growth and development in the country."
