Vaccination efforts have now shifted focus to minors aged 12 to 17 years old, who have comorbidities, and, so far, the Department of Health (DOH) has noted that the rollout has been successful.

Alert Level 3 also started to be implemented in Metro Manila on Saturday, October 16, 2021, and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano admits that there could be a resurgence of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases with more mobility allowed for the public.

The Metropolitan Theater in Manila also comes to life after decades of being in a state of squalor with a Lapu-Lapu musical on October 24, 2021. Another kind of spectacle is expected to light up the night sky with the Orionid meteor shower expected from October 17 to October 25, 2021.

Next week will also see another round of big-time fuel price hikes.

These are among the top stories this Saturday afternoon, October 16, 2021.

A huge crowd makes its way into the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach off Roxas Boulevard in Malate, Manila, after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) held a soft opening on Saturday, October 16, 2021, as Metro Manila opens up to a less restrictive Alert Level 3. (Manny Llanes)
