National gov't mulls creation of One Oxygen Command — DTI

The national government is considering setting up a "One Oxygen Command" to ensure enough supply of oxygen tanks amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, an official of the Department of Trade Industry (DTI) said Friday, Oct. 15.

DTI Usec. Ireneo Vizmonte said the command group, once it materializes, will be led by the DTI and the Department of Health (DOH).

"As of now, it is still a concept. We have no idea when we could start it," Vizmonte said in an online briefing.

The One Oxygen Command follows the concept of the One Hospital Command where patients are assured of effective and efficient health facility referral anywhere in the country.

In the same manner, the One Oxygen Command will guarantee the efficient delivery of oxygen supply in different regions and hospitals where it is most needed, Vizmonte explained.

The DTI is expected to release further details of the plan to establish One Oxygen Command once approved.

"Meanwhile, we continue our efforts to ensure that there is enough production of oxygen in the country," Vizmonte said.
