Five more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released last Oct. 10 from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
Of those released, two had been granted parole while the three others had served their maximum jail terms, it said.
Last August, BuCor records showed that 223 PDLs were released from NBP. Data for last September was not immediately available.
“The PDLs could not contain their excitement to finally be with their families especially holiday season is coming near,” BuCor said in a statement.
“They underwent rapid antigen test and received financial assistance for their travel expenses,” it said.
The immediate release of qualified PDLs has been the ongoing project of BuCor particularly when COVID-19 pandemic hit the country to help decongest jail facilities, it added.
Last August, BuCor said 339 PDLs were released from its prison facilities nationwide.
