P2.7-M worth of relief extended to ‘Maring’-affected areas


More than P2.7-million worth of relief assistance has been extended to the areas affected by severe tropical storm ‘Maring’, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Thursday, Oct. 14.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Glenda Relova said the relief aid was provided to affected areas in Ilocos Norte, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

"Sa kasalukuyan nakapamahagi na ang departamento ng humanitarian assistance na nagkakahalaga ng P2.7 million sa Regions 1, 2 at CAR (Currently, the department has distributed humanitarian assistance worth P2.7 million to Regions 1, 2 and CAR),” she said during the Laging Handa briefing.

She said of the total assistance disbursed, P1.8 million came from the DSWD, and P934,000 from the local government units (LGUs).

The DSWD official noted that the DSWD Field Offices (FOs) and the National Resource Operation Center (NROC) have standby funds amounting to P1.05 billion to augment the resources of the affected LGUs.

Citing the report of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), Relova said as of Oct. 13, 6 p.m., Maring had affected 45,000 families or 175, 501 individuals from 563 barangays in llocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, National Capital Region (NCR) and CAR.
