Abed “Abed” Yusop was the third Filipino to fall in The International 10 as the Evil Geniuses yielded to Vici Gaming, 2-1, in their lower bracket match in Bucharest, Romania on Thursday, October 14.
EG failed to sustain its fine start as it faltered in the crucial moments in Games 2 and 3, allowing Vici Gaming to pull off the stunning reverse sweep.
Zeng "Ori" Jiaoyang was the hero for Vici as his Queen of Pain and Spectre in the second the third match took over in the late game to help his team take down the No.1 team in DPC points.
With EG leading the series, 1-0, the North American squad had the chance to close out the series after a blistering start in Game 2. Vici, whose players seemed to be in disarray in Game 1 and in the early going of Game 2, managed to pull itself together and hold the first 30 minutes of the game.
Vici then got the opening it needed as it took the Roshan after killing two heroes to the side of EG.
Ori, on his Queen of Pain, took over from that point as he was simply unkillable in the team fights in the late game. He carried his team on his shoulder to tow Vici to a 33-35 comeback victory in Game 2 to tie the series.
Just like in the first two games, EG dictated the tempo in the early phase but just couldn’t get the push to break through Vici’s solid high ground defense. Vici stalled the game past the 30-minute mark once more allowing Ori’s Spectre, this time, to dominate every EG hero in the late game.
Ori finished with 6-3-18 KDA while Yang "poyoyo" Shaohan came alive with a 12-3-12 showing in the series clinching 30-15 win.
EG was methodical in Game 1, slowly and steadily dissecting Vici rotations in the early game to draw the first blood in the series with a swift 19-5 victory in the opener in 22 minutes. The North America representatives, however, lost steam in Game 2 and couldn’t go back to form as the Chinese squad made them pay and ended their title hopes.
Despite the loss, EG still bagged at least a P40 million prize for finishing at the 9th -12th spot in the tournament.
