The hashtag #KakampinkWednesdays, which refers to Vice President Leni Robredo’s supporters call to wear pink every Wednesday until the May 2022 elections, trended on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, Oct.13.
#KakampinkWednesdays trended no. 7 on the social media site in the Philippines.
Robredo's daughters led the way in posting “something pink” on their timelines, with Aika posting a photo of pink flowers and hair scrunchies.
“How about some pink flowers to brighten this gloomy day? Pink be with you, everyone! #wednesdaysarepinkdays #kakampinkwednesdays,” she wrote.
Tricia followed this up with a photo of a traditional Pinoy bread with pink pudding while Jillian posted a photo of her and her mother that she edited to make it look like the Vice President was wearing a pink blouse.
But it’s not just the Robredo sisters who joined the so-called “pink revolution” every Wednesday.
Adamson University illuminated its SV facade in pink “to show our solidarity with the cause of Vice President Leni Robredo".
“She has shown resistance to corruption, disdain for injustice, and an untainted love for the poor reflected by her wholehearted service. We have had strongmen and political dynasties lead our nation. It’s time we don’t settle for less. Let us choose genuine servant-leadership,” Adamson’s Facebook post said.
Presidential aspirant Robredo reposted it and said she was “truly humbled” by the university’s gesture.
Former Ifugao representative and now senatorial aspirant Teddy Baguilat Jr. was also in pink when he had an interview on ANC’s Headstart.
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s Magdalo Party is also one with Robredo as it posted that “Magdalo Party wears pink for Leni.”
“Pag may mang-aapi, Magdalo ang iyong kakamPINK (If there are those who persecute, Magdalo is your partner in PINK),” Magdalo Party-List Rep. Manuel Cabochan said.
Kakampink is a term first used by former Senator Bam Aquino, Robredo’s campaign manager, to rally the Vice President’s supporters.
This was after Robredo's supporters turned their social media timelines pink when she announced her presidential bid last Oct. 7.
The health sector also showed their support for Robredo, who has actively helped them by setting up dormitories, shuttle services, hot meals, and supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the past 18 months since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic began.
People from Naga College Foundation, Inc.’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences Clinical Instructress were all clad in pink PPEs in a post by Marivic Vargas Balance on Facebook.
The instructress, the post said, “are convinced that we really need a leader that believes in good governance for a better country… Full support for VP Leni Gerona Robredo as our next President!".
Also on Twitter, a group of medical interns at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) posed for a photo while wearing pink shirts.
“PGH Nephrons for #KakampinkWednesdays,” Charmaine Aisha Ambatali, who is a PGH nephron-in-training, said in a Twitter post.
