The DOST-VII’s technology support has been extended to the municipality of Alegria through the MOA signing on Sept. 29.

The project was made possible through the agency’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program.

“It aims to provide science and technology interventions for the commercial development of community-based enterprises for production of bamboo products,” DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said.

“Under the project, the community will be upgrading its basic power tools to enhance essential gender-inclusive bamboo processing technologies to expand overall production output and produce good quality bamboo products.”

The municipality of Alegria, he noted, is famous for its locally produced bamboo products.

“The project will also conduct technology training courses to provide the community with income opportunities and sustainable livelihood,” de la Peña said.
