Severe tropical storm "Maring" (international name "Kompasu") has left the country's area of responsibility at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Maring was last spotted at 505 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan.
It has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph while moving westward over the West Philippine Sea.
Due to the wide circulation of Maring, several areas in Luzon may still experience rains and gusts in the next several hours.
Tropical cyclone wind signal number 2 remains hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Signal No. 1 is also still in effect in the mainland Cagayan, western portion of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, and northern portion of Bataan.
"Tonight (Oct. 12) through tomorrow morning (Oct. 13), light to moderate with at times heavy rains are highly likely over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon," PAGASA said.
The storm-enhanced southwest monsoon or "habagat" may also continue to bring rains over Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon in the next 24 hours.
PAGASA advised affected residents to remain vigilant against possible isolated scattered flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides especially those in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.
