With the May 2022 polls already nearing, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) - Employees Union (EU) has called for better protection for poll employees.

"The Comelec-EU, calls for protection for Comelec employees nationwide, who, as election fever continues to heat up, risk their lives and limb daily so that the peoples' right to suffrage are protected and upheld," Comelec-EU President Mac Ramirez said in a Facebook post.
He issued the call after the Election Officer of Maluso Municipality was wounded in a shooting incident in Isabela City, Monday night.
"The Comelec-EU vehemently condemns this," Ramirez said.
"We call on the Comelec to immediately put our law enforcement agencies to task so that those responsible for this barbarity will be brought to the bars of justice swiftly," he added.
"The more than five thousand-strong Comelec-EU prays for the immediate healing and recovery of Maluso, Basilan Election Officer Aknam Hasim and his daughter," said Ramirez.
