3 siblings buried alive in Benguet


BAGUIO CITY — Three siblings were instantly killed after a landslide buried their house while their family was having dinner Monday, October 11 in La Trinidad, Benguet.


 
Those who perished were an eight year old boy who was the eldest and his sisters aged six and two who were with their parents when the landslide occurred 8:00 p.m..
 
Their parents, identified as Romnick and Stephanie Teligo survived the incident.
 
Power failure and lack of signal hampered rescue attempt by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management at Sitio Ubbog, Central Ambiong where the family resides.
 
It took about an hour before the victims were extricated from their place. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
 
In Baguio City, four persons including a 56-year-old grandfather and his two grandchildren aged 12 and 4, were missing after a landslide was reported at Marosan Alley, Barangay Dominican Mirador.
 
The victims were trapped at around 7:30 pm on Monday  but the incident was reported at around 9:30 p.m. due to lack of communications. One of the four was rescued the but three remains missing as of 6:00 a.m. 
 
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the newly procured life detector is being used to search for the remaining victims.
