15 national roads closed due to 'Maring'


At lest 15 sections of national roads are not passable due to flooding, landslides and other adverse effects of the tropical storm "Maring", the Department of Public Works and Highways disclosed on Tuesday, Oct 12.

Based on its report, the DPWH-Bureau of Maintenance (DPWH-BOM) has identified the affected roads at the Cordillera Administrative Region as Kennon Road, K0216+(-650) Camp 1, in Tuba, Benguet due to fallen trees and debris flow; Baguio- Bontoc Road, K0275+300 section in Caliking, K0294+900 section Half Tunnel in Paoay, and K0305+500 section in Cattubo, Atok, Benguet.

It also reported the Asin-Nangalisan, San Pascual, the La Union Boundary Road in K0262+050 in Lasong and K0264+000, First Tunnel in Sipitan, Tadiangan Town, Benguet due to soil collapse, while the Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road, K0657+400 - K0657+450, Butao, Calanasan, Apayao due to landslide, and the Pico-Lamtang Road, K0260+000, Lamtang, La Trinidad, Benguet due to soil collapse with fallen tree.

Also closed were the Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road K0308+500 in Poblacion and the K0322+950 in Palina, Kibungan, Benguet; Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road, K0343+500 in Amlimay and K0365+400 in Abatan, Buguias, Benguet; and Abatan-Mankayan-Cervates Road K0346+800 and K0335+650, Dowag, Guinaoang, Mankayan due to soil collapse.

On the other hand, the four roads in Region 1 include the Manila North Road in K0392+300, Brgy. Sacuyya, Santa and Bayugao Bridge, Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur because of landslide and damaged bridge, San Juan-San Gabriel Road, K0280+000 - K0282+000 and Luna-Bangar Road, K0305+000-K0307+000 in La Union due to landslide and flooding; and Rosario-Pugo Road, K0225+400 and Brgy. Ambalite, Pugo, La Union due to mudslide.

Meanwhile, the affected road sections in Region 2 are: Baybayog-Baggao-Dalun-Sta. Margarita Road, Abusag Overflow Bridge, K0543+382 in Cagayan and Cabagan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge, Cabagan Sta. Maria, Isabela due to high water elevation, and in Region 7, road closure was reported along Cebu-Toledo Wharf Road, K0023+700, Brgy. Manipis, Talisay City, Cebu due to soil collapse and rock fall.

DPWH-BOM also reported several roads with limited access due to flooding in Region 1.

Roads that are only accessible to heavy vehicles include the Manila North Road K0333+000 in Sta. Cruz-Sta. Lucia Bdry, K0347+000, in Candon, K0369+800 in Brgy. Baliw Daya, Sta Maria, and K0373+600 in Brgy. Nanguneg, Narvacan, in the province of Ilocos Sur; and Manila North Road, K0287+800 in La Union.

Meanwhile, the Batangas-Tabangao-Lobo Road, Sta.138+150 to 145+400 is still passable to only light vehicles due to damaged seawall and road slip damaged by previous typhoons.
