97 Filipinos file COC for presidency


A total of 97 individuals have filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for president for the May 2022 polls since the start of the filing period.

According to the latest tally, 97 Filipinos aspiring to succeed President Duterte have submitted their COCs before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from October 1 to 8.

Among the prominent personalities who have filed their COCs were Vice President Leni Robredo, Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Senator Ping Lacson, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, and former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

For the vice president position, there were 29 individuals who filed their COCs.

Included in the list were Senate President Vicente Sotto III, physician Willie Ong.Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, and House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza.

Meanwhile, there were 176 senatorial aspirants who filed their COCs.

At least 270 party-list groups also submitted their list of nominees.

For the local posts, there were 733 individuals who submitted their COCs for house district representative; 281 for governor; 226 for vice governor; 1,951 for board member; 4,486 for mayor; 3,968 for vice mayor; and 35,636 for councilor.

The COC filing ended last Friday, Oct. 8.
