QC gov’t plans to expand bike lane network

The city government of Quezon City is planning to expand the 93-kilometer bike lane network to 161 kilometers as biking continues to rise as an alternative mode of transportation.

"Whatever you're cycling for, the bike lanes are for you,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said during a bike run activity on Sunday.

Belmonte added that bikers are not "second-class citizens".

"In Quezon City, we believe that bikers are not second-class citizens, that's why we are committed in providing them safe and improved bike lanes," she said.

The QC government added that the expansion of the bike lane network is part of its commitment to sustain recovery and reduce air pollution by 2030.

In 2020, Quezon City was one of the first cities to implement bike lanes.

Biking became the alternative mode of commuting when the country was placed under the Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and public transportation became limited.
