Southeast Asia representative Fnatic absorbed two straight sweeps at the hands of SG Esports and PSG.LGD in its first two games in Day 2 of The International in Bucharest, Romania on Friday, October 8.
After forcing two draws the previous day, Fnatic found itself in a world of trouble in the first two matches of its three-game schedule on the second day of the tournament.
Raven “Raven” Fausto was the lone bright spot for the SEA squad it their 2-0 loss against SG Esports. Raven on his Sven tried to carry his team in Game 1 with a 10-4-5 KDA but the effort was not enough as Adriano “4dr” Machado on his Tinker and Guilherme “Costabile” Costábile on his Juggernaut joined hands to take the 22-16 win in the series opener.
4dr had a 9-1-10 KDA while Costabile added 5-0-13 KDA to boot.
The two shone once again for the Brazilian team in Game 2, pulling off a 42-35 victory in 64 minutes of play.
Unlike in Game 1, Fnatic put up a better fight in the second match behind Raven’s Spectre who scattered a 16-6-12 KDA. Fnatic’s one-man show, however, was no match against SG Esports with 4dr spearheading the onslaught with 11-4-12 KDA on his Lina while Constabile added 15-6-11 score line on his Sven to close out the series.
Fnatic had no time to lick its wounds as it also took the Group B leaders PSG.LGD later in the day.
PSG. LGD showed no mercy to the Southeast Asia Qualifier winner, overcoming two tight games for a 2-0 victory over Fnatic. Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang’s Invoker and Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida” Death Prophet helped the Chinese squad outplay Fnatic in Game 1 to come out on top with a 29-28 victory in 47 minutes of play.
Raven on his Luna continued his fine play for his team with an 8-4-6 stat line while Ng Kee “Chyuan” Chyuan on Queen of Pain provided the support 10-5-11 in a losing effort.
Fnatic tried to steal a point in Game 2 but PSG.LGD proved to be the steadier team down the stretch as it pulled off a 28-24 win in Game 2. The combination of Wang “Ame” Chunyu’s Terrorblade and NothingToSay’s Tinker did most of the damage for the Chinese squad with 11-3-7 and 11-3-11 KDAs respectively.
Raven on his Gyrocopter paced Fnatic with 8-4-7 score line.
Fnatic will have the chance to end Day 2 on a winning note when it takes on fellow struggling team Quincy Crew.
