Ex-Rep. Baguilat files COC for senator


Former Ifugao representative Teddy Baguilat Jr. is seeking a Senate seat in the May 2022 elections under the banner of the Liberal Party.

Baguilat filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Harbor Garden of Sofitel Manila in Pasay City on Friday, Oct. 8.

He is among the senatorial aspirants running under the ticket of the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who are seeking for president and vice president, respectively.

“I am here to represent the indigenous peoples, mga lumads at mga katutubo (lumads and natives),” Baguilat said.

If elected, the indigenous leader vowed to push for the passage of the National Land Use Act, as well as for the passage of a new mining law, and sustainable forest management measure, among others.

Baguilat urged voters to support different set of candidates in the next year’s elections.

“Subukan naman natin ang mga naiiba (Let's try the different candidates). It’s the high time that indigenous peoples come out and say na kaya rin natin na tumulong na Senado (that we can also help in the Senate),” he said.

The former lawmaker has been promoting for the rights of indigenous peoples and minority groups.

He previously served as representative of the lone district of Ifugao.
