Ray of hope? Supporters remain hopeful Mayor Sara will vie for presidency

DAVAO CITY - Supporters of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio just won't give up on their wish to see the presidential daughter run for the presidency.

Thursday evening, Ocrtober 7, supporters of the City Mayor have posted a photo of the Davao City Hall turning on its Christmas led lights to green, said to be the political color of the feisty Davao executive.

The photo though was believed to have been taken late 2019.

Though Mayor Sara earlier posted in her Facebook page her disinterest to run for president in the 2022 elections, her supporters are still hoping that her decision will change.

October 8 would be the last day for filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for those individuals who have the interest to run in the 2022 National Elections.

During a press briefing Thursday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said President Duterte remains hopeful that his daughter, Mayor Duterte-Carpio, would throw her hat in next year’s presidential race.

“The President has from the very beginning believed that she is the most able candidate for president and apparently it’s not just I who agrees with it; it’s also the rest of the Filipino people if we are to believe surveys as reflective of the people’s sentiments,” Roque said.

Duterte-Carpio filed last Saturday her COC for reelection as Davao mayor. She is gunning for her third term.

As far as May 2022 election scenarios go, the lady official could still become a presidential candidate even after the lapse of COC filing tomorrow, Oct. 8.

She can do this by being a substitute to a presidential candidate who filed his or her COC, for as long as the substitution takes place on or before Nov. 15, 2021.
