DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña commended the PSHS Foundation for partnering with Converge and for continuously providing valuable resources for PSHS teachers and students.

“With the benefits the Internet gives to people in every field, I am happy with this partnership that will provide free Wi-Fi in provincial offices of the Department of Science and Technology for the Philippine Science High School students. This agreement is a gesture of alliance to help deliver and improve government services through accessible education for the Filipino youth, most especially during these challenging times,” he said in a message during the virtual signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Converge ICT Solutions Inc. and the PSHS Foundation on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

He noted that last year, the PSHS Foundation donated several units of brand new laptops to 16 PSHS campuses.

De la Peña lauded the PSHS Foundation and Converge for extending assistance to PSHS campuses.

"Your combined effort is a manifestation of support to public-private partnership in implementing and operating digital infrastructure facilities and services that the government cannot traditionally provide the public sector all on its own. Both of you are showing leadership by example that young people can emulate and learn from,” he said.

“We are sending a great message of hope that despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, it is the innate goodness of humanity to give a helping hand and to collaborate on worthy causes that will help us thrive and overcome difficulties in life during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.”

De la Peña expressed hope that both parties will sustain such undertaking in the years to come.

“I am optimistic that this agreement and worthwhile partnership will serve its purpose.”
