A presidential aspirant urged the Filipino electorate to vote for new candidates during next year’s national and local elections.

Ephraim Defino said that Filipinos should elect “new” government officials to stop corruption.

“Tumatakbo sila, pabalik-balik sa gobyerno, nangungurakot, yumayaman. Kailangan natin ng bagong leader mga kababayan ko. Maawa na tayo sa mga anak natin—the next generation (They are running again in the government, engaging in corrupt activities, and getting rich. We need a new leader, my countrymen. Let us pity our children — the next generation),” said Defino as he filed his certificate of candidacy for president on Thursday, Oct. 7.

Defino said that he is going to be the “best leader of this country.”

“Walang kurakot sa aking administrasyon. Ang tumatakbo ngayon lahat iyan kurakot. Bakit pabalik-balikin niyo iyan sa Senado o Malacanang? (There is no corruption in my administration. Those who are running right now are corrupt. Why will you put them again in the Senate or Malacanang?) We are going to elect a new breed of politikos,” he said.

He vowed to increase the salary of teachers and healthcare workers should he win.

“I will increase the salary of teachers to P50,000 per month, if we increase the salary of PNP and the military, why can’t the teachers. They are the heroes of our time,” said Defino.

“The COVID frontliners, I will give you a salary of P30,000 a month. Libre one sako na bigas at (Free one sack of rice and) [transportation] service and housing program for the frontliners,” he added.

He appealed to the Commission on Elections to approve his candidacy for the highest position in the land.

“Comelec I advised you, pagbigyan niyo ako. I am the best leader of this country. Aprubahan niyo ako and I will show you, I’m the best leader in the new generation—-2022,” said Defino.
