Magalong eyes second term as Baguio City mayor


BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong filed his certificate of candidacy Monday, October 4, as he aims for a second term in this Summer Capital.

Now a member of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition, magalong ran as an independent in 2019 with only two councilors in his slate.

This coming election, however, he has four councilors as part of his ticket namely Cricket Villareal, Marlene de Castro, Pamela Cariño and re-electionist Councilor Leah Fariñas.

Before becoming mayor, Magalong served the Philippine National Police in various capacities, both operational and management, in his over 38 years in the service.

Born and raised in Baguio, Magalong completed his education from Saint Louis University and at the Philippine Military Academy, graduating magna cum laude in 1982.

After retiring from the service in December 2016, he served as senior vice president for operations of Steel Asia Corp., a major firm in the Philippines.
