Inflation slows in September to 4.8%


Consumer prices last month eased to 4.8 percent, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

The September inflation rate is lower than the 4.9 percent in the previous month, but quicker compared with the 2.3 percent rise of a year ago.

Last month's average price increase was within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) forecast range of between 4.8 percent and 5.6 percent.

The September figure caused the nine-month average to move up to 4.5 percent, above the BSP target of 2.0 percent to 4.0 percent this year.
