Andrew Gan says tough times made him stronger

Actor Andrew Gan has admitted there were tough times with his parents when he was younger.

During a Zoom press conference for his BL movie "Limited Edition" over the weekend, Andrew said that rough moments with his parents affected his life.

But Andrew said he never gave up and stayed strong despite the difficult period with his family.

"Wala akong father figure. So suwerte ako sa auntie at uncle ko na talagang nag-guide sa amin. Thankful ako sa ginawa nila, especially noon college ako. Na-culture shock ako. Pero thankful ako sa past dahil kung hindi sa past, hindi ako ganito ka-solid at kaya kong tumayo sa sarili kong paa," he said.

But everything is okay now after Andrew settled his differences with his father.

Andrew stars in the new BL series "Limited Edition" directed by Jill Singson Urdaneta for Bragais TV of accomplished shoe designer Jojo Bragais and co-produced by Michelle Jhoie Ferraris.

"Limited Edition" is Andrew's first major role after he appeared in other flicks such as "Batang Foz," "Super Ma'am," "The Third Party," and "Ang Henerasyong Sumuko Sa Love." It also stars Ron Angeles and Jomari Umpa. Joining them are Donna Cariaga, Michelle Jhoie Ferraris, Iyah Mina, and Ruby Ruiz. Story by Bernard Umali and written by Joni Mones Fontanos.

On being Jethro, Andrew enthuses: “The most challenging part about being him is how to feel like him, to live in his shoes, and give justice to that feeling of falling in love with another young man. I want to be truthful lalo na pag naramdaman na niya na he is in love with Mario.”

"Madaming heavy scenes na magaganap. Sobrang free will kami gawin yung gusto namin. Kaya sobrang thankful," said Andrew, now being managed by talent manager Leo Dominguez.

“Limited Edition” is a romantic drama about finding one’s elusive and everlasting love with a love triangle story arc that gives it more kilig, heartstrings pull, and a fairy-tale-like conclusion of who ends up with whom.

Says Urdaneta: “The process of love and loving, of being loved and in love, everyone who will give us their time and support, they will witness it in Limited Edition. The many discoveries about one’s self, insecurities exposed, the willingness to compromise and sacrifice, to make a relationship work because all relationships need a lot of work and commitment to make it work. All these, and more, are in this drama about romantic connections and everlasting possibilities.”

Asked his opinion on same-sex relationships, Andrew said: "At the end of the day kahit na sino pa ang humadlang sa atin, nasa dalawang tao pa rin ang decision. Kung paano nila aayusin ang relationship nila. I think it's more on communication. Importante na lagi kayong nag-uusap. So tingin ko magwo-work (ang same-sex relationship) kasi may mga kilala rin akong nasa ganung situation. Nagpo-prosper siya. Same gender sila pero pareho silang nagmamahalan. Ganun din naman sa lalaki at babae. Nagmamahalan sila."

Limited Edition” started airing on BRAGAIS TV on Oct. 2 at 8 pm. BRAGAIS TV is an online channel for fun and entertainment for Filipinos.
