Some 100 individuals were apprehended by the Pasay City police after they were caught swimming at the breakwater along Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City Sunday.
Col. Cesar Paday-os, Pasay police chief, immediately dispatched policemen to the area after a report came out in Manila Bulletin that several families were swimming at the Manila Bay.
Paday-os said citation tickets were issued to those caught swimming for violation of health and safety protocols implemented amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
He said because of the incident, more policemen will be deployed to the area to prevent people from swimming.
The city police chief said a signage of “Bawal Maligo” (swimming is prohibited) will also be placed in the area.
The National Capital Region (NCR) is still under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) Alert Level 4 until October 15.
