The Department of Health (DOH) reminded women the importance of self breast examination for early detection of breast cancer.

Regular self-breast examination and screening play an important role in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women, the DOH said.

A breast self-examination is a method to detect any noticeable changes in one’s breast, the DOH said.

The Department said that “early detection of any changes in the breast and seeking immediate consultation will increase one’s chances of successful treatment.”

The DOH said that breast cancer is the “third leading cause of cancer deaths among Filipinos.”

“We urge women to do breast self-examination regularly and seek early consultation or teleconsultation with the primary care physicians for further assessment,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

“Early detection of breast cancer is tantamount to better treatment outcomes for our patients,” he added.
