Filipina athletes Veronica Ompod and Jane Erasmo gave honor to the Philippines as they earned medals in the recent World Classic Powerlifting Championships held in Halmstad, Sweden.

Ompod bagged four gold medals as she dominated the 43kg women's junior division following the failure of other participants to make the weight during the competition as mentioned by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines.

“Regardless, Veronica was the top seed to win the gold anyway over all her competitors, based on the official nominations,” said the association as Ompod lifted a total of 255kg to win the gold in squat, bench press, deadlift and total weight.

Erasmo, on the other hand, claimed four bronze medals in the 47kg women's sub-junior division, behind Ukraine's Petrenko Tetiana and Alina Udaltsova of Russia.

Tetiana had 62.5kg in bench press while Erasmo failed to lift the same weight.

The Ukrainian had 78.01kg to Erasmo's 77.14kg in deadlift to rule the weight category with a total lift of 89.53kg.

Meanwhile, Agustin Lorenzo claimed a silver medal in bench press in the 74kg men's sub-junior division. He lifted 147.5kg to finish behind Teo Kalogjera of Croatia as the latter set a new world record of 170kg.

Lorenzo placed fourth overall in the weight division with a total of 572.5kg.
