Kalayaan Bridge closed until Sept. 30 to give way to BGC-Ortigas Center Link opening

Motorists have been advised that the Kalayan Bridge between Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, Sept. 29 to Thursday, Sept. 30.

The closure was ordered to give way to the opening of the newly-constructed Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Center Link Road scheduled on Sept. 30.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions from Pasig City to Makati City and vice versa starting Wednesday until 8 p.m. of Thursday.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will inaugurate the entire 1.48-kilometer BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link following the completion of the 565-meter viaduct section between Lawton Avenue in Makati City and BGC's 8th Avenue in Taguig City.

The viaduct and Kalayaan Bridge are both key components of the BGC-Ortigas Center Link which will be fully-opened to motorists by October 1 after its inauguration.

Once accessible, the road project is poised to reduce travel time between the business districts in Pasig and Taguig to only 12 minutes.

The construction of the BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link Project also covers the much needed optimal improvement for the 362-meter Brixton Street (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street at Pasig/Mandaluyong side to cater the increased number of road users.
