Team Rebisco, Choco Mucho leave for Asian Club tilt in Thailand

Women’s volleyball teams Rebisco and Choco Mucho left for Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Tuesday to compete in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.

The tournament is slated Oct. 1 to 7 and stakes a berth to the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Ankara, Turkey on Dec. 15 to 19.

This would be the two teams’ first international tournament since the pandemic, banking on month-long bubble training in Lipa City, Batangas.

Aby Maraño skippers Team Rebisco with Brazilian consultant Jorge Souza de Brito as coach, while Iris Tolenada is the team captain of Team Choco Mucho with Oddgie Mamon as coach.

Choco Mucho raises the curtain on Oct.1 when it takes on hometown squad Nakhon Ratchasima at 1:30 p.m., followed by Rebisco against Kazakhstan’s Altay team at 7 p.m.

Choco Mucho returns on Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. to clash against another Kazakh squad in Zhetyssu, followed by Rebisco at 4:30 p.m. against Thai crew Supreme Chonburi.

Rebisco tangles with Iran’s Saipa Tehran squad on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Philippine men’s team, which will carry the name Team Rebisco, will leave for the same venue on Oct. 4 for the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship scheduled Oct. 7 to 15.

The PH spikers are bracketed in Pool B with Iran’s Foolad Sirjan, Qatar’s Al-Arabi, Thailand’s Diamond Food and Uzbekistan’s AGMK in the 10-team tournament.

The Filipinos will first battle Fooland Sirjan on Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m., AGMK on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m., Al-Arabi on Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m., and Diamond Food on Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m.
