19 Ateneo priests, seminarians positive for COVID-19


At least 19 priests and seminarians at the Ateneo Jesuit residences in Quezon City have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a report of DZMM, four Jesuit residences are now under lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Fourteen foreign seminarians are also positive for COVID-19 at Arrupe International Residence while two priests and two Filipino seminarians tested positive at Loyola House. One seminarian tested positive at Jose Seminary.

The Infirmary where retired priests are staying has been placed under lockdown since last year after.

Other priests and seminarians have been separated from the retired priests to avoid infecting the community.

Praying and and other religious activities as well as dining together were.suspended in the residences.

The priests and seminarians who tested positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic and are considered as mild cases. They are also vaccinated against COVID-19.

Ateneo de Manila has its own isolation facility and laboratory where reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests can be processed.

Three priests have died due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
