Eleazar sacks PNPA director over death of cadet


Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered the relief of the director of the Philippine National Police Academy apparently over the death of second year cadet after being repeatedly punched by an upperclassman last week.

Police Maj. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento will be replaced by Police Maj. Gen. Alex Sampaga as PNPA Director effective September 29.

Both Armamento and Sampaga are products of the PNPA, the former belongs to Class 1990 while the latter Class 1989.

The PNPA change of leadership days after the death of Cadet 3rd Class George Carl Magsayo who collapsed after receiving body punches from his upperclassman, Cadet 2nd Class Steven Ceasar Maingat.

Magsayo was taken to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead. Maingat, on the other hand, is currently under the custody of the Silang Municipal Police Station in Cavite.

A case for violation of Anti-Hazing Law that resulted in Homicide is expected to be filed against him today, Sept. 27.
