PH Red Cross provides cash aid to families affected by pandemic


As Filipinos struggle with the effects of the health crisis, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) provided cash assistance to families greatly affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

The humanitarian organization said it distributed a total of P81,074,000 cash assistance to affected families in 45 municipalities and 21,791 barangays across the country.

“The declaration of the nationwide lockdown caused many people to lose their jobs, especially those with daily wage jobs,” the PRC said in a statement Sunday, Sept. 26.

According to the PRC, it providing assistance to 23,164 families from Metro Manila, Olongapo, Bulacan, Rizal, Western Samar, Leyte, and Cebu, with each of the beneficiaries received P3,500.

The cash distribution is in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), American Red Cross, and Netherlands Red Cross.

“Etong cash assistance na ito ay tulong upang sila ay magkaroon ng dignidad at makatayo sa kanilang mga paa (This cash assistance will help them to have dignity and stand on their feet),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon said.

“Maliit lamang na halaga, ngunit malaking tulong ito sa mga taong nawalan ng trabaho ngayong pandemya (It’s only a small amount, but it’s a big help to people who have lost their jobs during this pandemic),” he added.
