ILOILO CITY – Governor Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. and Vice Governor Christine “Tingting” Garin will most likely retain their positions as the two top elected officials of Iloilo province next year.

Defensor, provincial chairperson of the ruling PDP–Laban, confirmed that he will not have a running-mate for the May 2022 elections. Instead, he will endorse Garin of the Nacionalista Party (NP).

Garin also confirmed that the Garin political clan of southern Iloilo province will not have anyone run for governor against Defensor.

During his regular press conference, Defensor noted that any other gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial candidates will not come from either PDP-Laban or NP.

The status quo scenario is also eyed for the five congressional districts in Iloilo province.

Reps. Janette Loreto-Garin of the 1st District, Michael Gorriceta of the 2nd District, Lorenz “Noy” Defensor the 3rd District (PDP-Laban), and Raul “Boboy” Tupas of the 5th District will most likely be reelected.

Defensor is exploring an alliance with the candidate who lost against him during the May 2019 elections, former Rep. Ferj Biron of the 4th District. Defensor does not yet know if incumbent Rep. Braeden John Biron is running for reelection or his father Ferj is running.
