Flood hits 2 Negros town villages

BACOLOD CITY — Some houses in two villages in Cauayan, Negros Occidental were affected by flooding due to heavy rains on Wednesday, September 22.

In a video posted by Rhendo John Delos Reyes, the flood destroyed their sari-sari store, computer shop, and eatery situated in an elevated part of a creek.

Delos Reyes, in the video, said that he went outside their house for a while to look for a Wifi signal, when the flood occurred.

“Pagbalik ko amo na ni natabo, wala gid kami may nasalbar, zero kami balik,” (When I came back, this happened, we didn’t save anything,” he said in the video.

Delos Reyes, however, said that it’s fortunate that the incident happened during daytime, and not in the evening, as his parents sleep at the sari-sari store.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), heavy rains lasted for about an hour, and the floodwater reached the chest level.

The affected households were situated in low-lying areas of Barangays Poblacion and Manoling.

However, despite the flooding, the MDRRMO said that no evacuation occurred, as the floodwater later subsided. No casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, Delos Reyes is asking for help, following the incident.
