PNP probes teenager’s death in Tondo road mishap- Año


The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now conducting an investigation into the incident where a teenager was ran over by a truck in a popular food hub in Tondo, Manila, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday night, Sept. 21.

Reports disclosed that the victim, 18- year old Alberto Abel, was walking on the street with his headphones on in Barangay 94 when he got hit by a 14-wheeler last Sept. 20.

“The PNP will investigate and let’s finish the investigation,’’ Año said in a viber message.

"We’ll also look into how eateries are able to occupy the sidewalks’," he added, without mentioning if the Manila local government unit (LGUs) was given a notice to shed light on his inquiry.

A GMA News video footage showed that the victim was walking along Velazquez St. along with a companion when the truck hit him from behind.

The victim was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Abel’s mother urged the local officials to enhance the area’s safety features to avoid similar incidents.

The truck driver is in police custody and faces charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. (Chito A. Chavez)
