Former Senator Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ R. Marcos Jr. has not taken off the table the possibility of seeking the presidency.
Members of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) have formally announced their endorsement for the presidential candidacy of former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
Last week, young Marcos was reported to have visited the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) leadership, a religious group that has a known political clout in any elections.
During a recent media forum in Quezon city, Marcos said the possibility of his seeking the presidency has not been taken off the table.
During their National Convention held in Tupi, South Cotabato, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) passed a resolution endorsing Marcos as their presidential candidate for the May 2022 national elections.
PFP General Council Attorney George Briones said the endorsement was made after some members reached out to him expressing that they want former Senator Marcos to be their presidential candidate for the 2022 national elections.
"Ipanalangin po natin si Senator Bongbong Marcos para makagawa siya ng tamang desisyon dahil ‘di po madaling tumakbo na presidente ng Pilipinas lalo na sa panahon ngayon (We pray that Senator Marcos would arrive at decision to run for the presidency, particularly during this medical crisis)," he said.
Meeting Marcos for the first time, Briones described him as someone who is intelligent, educated, down-to-earth, not foul-mouthed, and has a great sense of humor.
"Lahat kami may notebook, may fountain pen, sumusulat po kami (We all have our notebooks, fountain pens. we write things down). Siya (Bong Bong) din meron, pinag-aaralan niya ang Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (He, too, has them, he is studying the PFP)," he said.
Briones told Marcos in the said meeting that PFP precisely because it is young at three years as a political party compared to the older political parties in the country, was not involved in any corruption or criminal cases, thus “does not carry any excess baggage.”
Partido Federal ng Pilipinas is a national political party approved by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in 2018 which is composed of 1.5 million members nationwide. Around 300 of their members in different parts of the country have won in the 2019 elections.
Despite being a young party, it enjoys a stronghold in Mindanao down to the municipal level, aside from a nationwide stellar membership and an active national youth organization.
The party's platform is to have a drug-free, insurgency-free, corruption-free and poverty- free society.
As of this writing, the post of chairman of the party remains vacant in case Marcos decided to take oath as member of the PFP.
"Kung mag-decide si Senator Bongbong Marcos na sumapi sa Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and he will take his oath as a member of PFP, tatawag po tayo ng another national convention bago po matapos ang buwan ng September where he will be nominated as the official candidate of the PFP for president (Marcos will be nominated as PFP official candidate for the presidency during a national convention after he has taken his oath of office)," Briones said.
