Fully-vaccinated residents in C. Visayas breach 1M mark

CEBU CITY — More than a million residents in Central Visayas are already fully vaccinated, marking a milestone in the region’s vaccination drive.

The Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) announced that as of September 12, 1,006,554 individuals in Region 7 have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Including those who received the first dose, the region already has 2,326,663 vaccinated individuals.

The 2020 census showed that the region has a population of eight million people with the 5.1 million coming from Cebu island.

The VVOC said that three million of COVID-19 vaccines have been sent by the national government to the region, which rolled out its vaccination last March.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of VVOC, said the current figures are a welcome development.
Loreche said that in Metro Cebu, herd immunity may be achieved before the year ends.

“In terms of supply, we have been promised that more vaccines will come,” Loreche said.
