With 26.3 million enrollees for School Year (SY) 2021-2022, the Department of Education (DepEd) has achieved 100.3 percent of last school year’s enrollment.
On the third day of classes for the newly-opened school year, enrollees in basic education for SY 2021-2022 has reached 26, 308, 875 based on the data released by DepEd on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

DepEd started regular enrollment for this school year on Aug. 16. Based on DepEd’s Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count, there are 21, 751, 548 students enrolled in public and private schools including State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education.
DepEd included the 4,557, 327 Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners who participated in the Early Registration held in March to May in the current enrollment data.
Of the running total, there are 20, 029, 767 enrollees in public schools; 1, 668, 489 students enrolled in private schools; and 53, 292 learners in SUCs/LUCs.
Among all regions, DepEd data showed that Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees 3, 440, 205 enrollees followed by Region III with 2, 579, 984 and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,415, 875.
DepEd has recorded 26, 227, 022 enrollees in SY 2020-2021.
The SY 2021-2022 formally opened in public schools on Sept. 13. DepEd welcomed the new school year by holding a National School Opening Day program held virtually.
On the first week of school opening, DepEd expressed optimism that more learners will enroll this school year.
“The enrollment report is still on a steady upward trend,” Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Nepomuceno Malaluan said.
Taking into consideration the reporting lag and several regions already surpassing 100 percent of last year's enrollment, Malaluan said that “there is indication not only of our learners from last year continuing this year, but also that some of our learners who opted to skip last SY are coming back.” DepEd also thanked teachers and school leaders for the “encouraging enrollment turnout rate” for the new school year.
In order to encourage more parents and guardians to enroll the children this school year, DepEd has extended the enrollment period for public schools until Sept. 30, 2021.
