Quibors to stage bouts next month

Eight months after holding a world title fight, local boxing outfit Quibor Boxing Promotion will again stage six exciting fights on Oct. 6 at the Quibors Training Camp in Rizal, Laguna.

The main event will have Quibor’s undefeated fighter Weljon Mindoro, who carries a 6-0 card, against Jerwin Mejes of CamSur Sports Academy in an eight-round super welterweight clash.

“He is 21 years old with a perfect record of six wins, five coming by way of knockouts and one unanimous decision. So we are excited for this fight and for this event,” said Quibors boxing promoter Gerry Balmes, who also has business partner Orlan Borcelango as Quibor's manager.

“We will hold it at the Quibor’s Fight Farm because it’s easier, facilities are already available if someone needs to stay for a 14-day quarantine. We’ll still implement strict health protocols under the government guidelines.”

Early this year, Ar-Ar Andales scored a third round technical knockout win over Zandre Padiran in their minimum weight collision that highlighted the return of boxing in Luzon organized by Quibor.

The 21-year-old Andales, the reigning World Boxing Foundation minimum champion from Cavite, punished Padiran with combinations to the head in the latter stage of the third round.

Also set to collide next month is Romer Pinili versus Kelvin Tenorio in an eight round super lightweight fight.

In the four six round matches, Jerald Into takes on Ronnel Tabayab in the welterweight class, Jerico Gatchalian meets Paolo Sy in the light flyweight division, Reynaldo Vargas tackles Justine Pulido in the flyweight category, Kresler Tenorio battles Jufel Salina in the super bantamweight rank.
