Comelec to hold national synchronized mall registration day on Sept 11

There will be a nationwide synchronized mall registration on Sept. 11.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to hold a national synchronized mall registration day with 21 days remaining before the voter registration deadline.

In the National Capital Region (NCR) which is under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the Comelec said, the Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) may accommodate applicants in selected malls of Robinsons Malls, Ayala Malls and SM Supermalls only up to 5 p.m.

"Mahalaga sa amin hindi lamang ang comfort at convenience ng publiko, kundi na rin ang kaligtasan at seguridad ng lahat, lalo na sa mga huling araw ng pagpaparehistro (We care not only about the comfort and convenience of the public, but also the safety and security of all, especially in the last days of the registration)" Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino said during the security conference for NCR held Thursday, Sept. 9 in preparation for the activity.

"Kaya naman lubos na nagpapasalamat ang Comelec na kaagapay namin ang pribadong sektor at iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno sa matagumpay na pagkamit ng layuning ito (That's why the Comelec is grateful to the private sector, government agencies who are one with us in achieving this goal)" she added.

For his part, Dir. Temie P. Lambino, NCR Regional Election Director highlighted the key value of the continued support of the mall partners and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in ensuring the successful conduct of mall registration, particularly the assistance that will be extended in order to properly manage the queues and ensure physical distancing.

NCRPO PCol. Luis Maria T. Pascual, meantime, assured the Comelec and mall partners of an initial 351 strong personnel to be deployed on Sept. 11, as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP) commitment to bring out a peaceful and orderly conduct of voter registration and strict implementation of health and safety protocols.
