BuCor eyes new data management system for more secure, easier access

Bureau of Corrections

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has started scouting for a computer data management system that would assure a more secure and easier access to documents from its prison facilities nationwide.

BuCor said in a statement that it still uses the Virtual Private Network and hardware server.

“This program is riskier considering that it needs a main server for backup and once the main server is damaged or destroyed, all data or information will be deleted or vanished,” it lamented.

It said it may consider the Personnel Accounting Information System (PAIS) that was recommended by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag already held a meeting last Aug. 26 to discuss the possibility of using the PAIS.

During the meeting, BuCor said Maj. Niel Carias, a computer engineer and PNP information Technician, gave a detailed explanation of the system which he said is “not a process redundant but a data redundant.”

Because of this, it said the online data management system such as PAIS has been recommended “to be adapted and utilized by our agency for more synchronized and centralized data system.”

“As an advancing agency, we should not just focus on the upgrading of equipment, hard assets or layouts but also to the awareness, professionalism and competency of the personnel,” it said quoting Chaclag.

“Indeed, this administration continues to fulfill the agency’s vision to have an efficient and competent corrections service,” it added.
