Agri losses due to 'Jolina' reach P179.57M


Agricultural losses caused by typhoon Jolina have reached P179.57 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The damage and losses were solely on rice which translated to 8,855 metric tons of production loss, covering 52,608 hectares of agricultural areas in Eastern Visayas.

This has affected 61,828 farmers, the Agriculture department said.

Meanwhile, various interventions have been made available to affected farmers and fisherfolk.

Rice, corn, and various vegetable seeds will also be given to affected farmers. Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry needs were also set aside.

Affected farmers and fisherfolk will be given access to a quick response fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas as well as access to survival and recovery (SURE) Loan Program of Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC).

There are also available funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to indemnify affected farmers.

"The DA-Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operations Center will continuously provide updates regarding 'Jolina'," DA said.

As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, severe tropical storm “Jolina” (international name “Conson”) is headed towards Cavite after traversing Batangas.
