Vice President Leni Robredo said she saw from the public a “greater appreciation” for the previous administration led by former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III following the latter’s death last June.

“May realization sa maraming tao na ito pala yung gusto nating klase ng leader. Mayroong appreciation (There was a realization from a lot of people that this was the class of leader that we wanted. There was an appreciation for it),” Robredo said during an online interview Friday, Sept. 3.

“Nakikita ko yan on Facebook, nakikita ko on Twitter, nakikita ko yung mga post ng mga tao na maraming nagising na gusto pala namin yung malinis, disente, seryoso na klaseng leadership. Ayun yung nakita ko after his death (I see it on Facebook, I see it on Twitter, I see posts from people who’ve realized that they want a clean, decent, and serious kind of leadership after all. That’s what I saw after his death),” she underscored.

Aquino, or “PNoy”, passed away last June 24 at the age of 61 due to renal disease, secondary to diabetes. He was a chairman of the Liberal Party ( LP), a position that Robredo now holds.

Aquino was succeeded by the incumbent President Duterte in 2016 after the former finished his six-year term in Malacañang.

Robredo commented on how the switch to the current administration led to the vilification of the previous one.

“After 2016 ang daming propaganda na pinapakita na masama yung nakaraang administrasyon…Mayroon ginawa yung mga dating nakaupo na it took years to build, parang gumuho lang siya ngayong after 2016 (After 2016, a lot of propaganda came out to show how bad the past administration was…Those who sat in office before had accomplishments that took years to build, and yet they just crumbled after 2016).”

The Vice President added: “Wala namang perpektong administrasyon pero noong namatay si PNoy (There is no such thing as a perfect administration, but when PNoy died), [there was] greater appreciation of the things he did. And marami yun (And there are many).”

Others, like former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson, have also come out to speak about the good deeds of the Aquino government.
